Scenario
I've made 100 ml of e-liquid with 9mg/ml nicotine and 4% flavoring, and it's too itchy in my throat, I think there's too much nicotine. I'd like to reduce the nicotine concentration to 6mg/ml. Is this possible? If so, how can I do it?
Explication
We learned in a previous article that to calculate the concentration of an e-liquid, we divide the amount of nicotine by the total amount of e-liquid.

In our case, we want to reduce the concentration, so we'll add a certain amount of base to the total e-liquid to dilute the final nicotine concentration.
Here's the equation used in our scenario:

We just need to isolate quantityToDilute like the following :

You therefore need to add 50 ml of base to reduce the nicotine concentration from 9mg/ml to 6mg/ml. However, don't forget that adding just the base will also dilute the flavor concentration.
To do this, if we want to maintain the 4% concentration of aroma, we add some base which has 0% flavoring. Except that, since the base has no nicotine, we can remove 4% from the base and replace it with 4% flavoring, thus obtaining 100 ml of the current e-liquid with 4% flavouring + 50 ml of 0mg/ml e-liquid with 4% flavoring. The flavour concentration is therefore maintained. And that's it!
Finally, in our case, we need to add 50 ml of base, including 4% flavoring.

Okay, perfect, we can fill the bottle with our informations.
Darn!
Our flask is only 120 ml and we need to add 50 ml. We're going to overflow...
Do I have a bigger bottle?
No...
So now I've got to find the minimum concentration I can achieve without overflowing my bottle. Well, I don't feel like doing any more calculations, so I'll try it out using the calculator
It was actually simpler this way! You know you can only go down to 7.5mg/ml unless you find a slightly larger bottle.

If you too would like to use this calculator to simplify your life, don't hesitate, it's over here ;)
Give it a try and feel free to provide feedback. I'd love to hear your thoughts! ;)
